Justin Chown currently works as a consulting Data Scientist for Cornerstone Whole Healthcare Organization, Inc. (C-WHO) and as a full-time Data Scientist for Micron Technology, Inc. His work at C-WHO focuses on automation and data processing using statistical methods, including image ingestion and data interpretation from imperfect sources like scanned behavioral health screeners. In addition, he works with the Microsoft Azure platform to look into data handling that requires optical character recognition and similar Azure data services. Prior to joining C-WHO, Justin received his PhD in statistics from Texas A&M University, and he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Catholic University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, BE) and the Ruhr-University Bochum (Bochum, DE).

This workshop will explore the fundamentals of NLP and its applications to qualitative evaluation.
- Participants will learn about the fundamental principles of natural language processing
- Participants will review use cases related to EMR data that is stored as free text
- Participants will learn some of the techniques that can be used to perform analysis with NLP
