Topics: termininology, concepts and history of LGBTQIA+ identities, how to take an affirming sexual health history, and best practice for creating inclusive environments
Description: This workshop will explore foundational understandings of LGBTQIA+ communities through terminology, concepts, and history. Helping learners recognize the fluidity of sexual and gender expression through an intersectional lens.
We will highlight the importance of collecting sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) demographic data of patients and how to take an affirming sexual health history.
Finally, learners will be able to identify best practice strategies for creating inclusive healthcare environments for patients.
- Recall terminology and concepts critical to understanding LGBTQIA+ communities
- Recall the history of gender diversity in the United States and historical milestones leading to greater healthcare access for LGBTQIA+ communities
- Describe the 6P’s of taking a sexual health history and understand the importance of collecting SOGI data
- Identify best practice strategies for creating inclusive healthcare spaces for patients
