Brain and Behavior: The Science and Evidence for Implicit Bias

At this workshop we will review the evidence from social sciences and neurosciences for bias and prejudice in society. We will use the Stereotype Content Model to organize the notions of warmth and competence and how these ideas influence our behavior. At the conclusion we will review strategies to combat bias – explicit and implicit – in health care.

- List the classic studies on racism and prejudice
- Review more recent evidence on the effects of prejudice in society and healthcare
- Understand the Stereotype Content Model Quadrants and how they illustrate Biases and Discrimination
- List strategies to combating bias in healthcare
